奈良井宿は、長野県塩尻市にある中山道34番目の宿場。

奈良井宿は、木曽十一宿の中では最も賑わった宿場で最も標高が高い。
難所の鳥居峠を控え、多くの旅人で栄えた宿場町は「奈良井千軒」といわれていました。
奈良井川に沿ってつづく約1kmの街並みは日本最長の宿場でもあります。
この地域は、江戸時代から曲げ物、櫛、木曽漆器などの木工業が盛んで土産物として人気がありました。

Narai-juku is the 34th post town on the Nakasendo in Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture.
Located in the upper reaches of the Narai River, the village is in a valley surrounded by mountains at an elevation of approximately 900 m. The townscape along the Nakasendo Road has been developed as an important traditional building preservation district for tourism.
Narai-juku is the busiest post town among the 11 Kiso post towns and the highest altitude.
Ahead of the difficult Torii Pass, the post town that prospered with many travelers was called “Narai Senken”.
It is also the longest post town in Japan, with a townscape of about 1km that continues along the Narai River.
This area has been popular as a souvenir since the Edo period, when woodwork such as bentwood, combs, and Kiso lacquerware has flourished.
The emotional landscape of Narai-juku takes visitors back in time to the Edo period.
