【山形／観光名所】上山散策／上山城と武家屋敷 – Kaminoyama Castle and Samurai Residence in YAMAGATA, JAPAN –

上山城は、山形県上山市にある城で、別名は月岡城。江戸時代には上山藩の藩庁が置かれました。戦国時代には、最上氏の最南端の城塞で、米沢の伊達氏や上杉氏との攻防の舞台となった場所です。
江戸時代、土岐氏の治政下で壮麗な城郭は「羽州の名城」として広く知れ渡りました。江戸初期の最上氏の改易後は、城主がめまぐるしく変わりましたが、上山藩は明治維新まで存続します。
城跡は月岡公園および月岡神社となり、また、1982年に二の丸跡に三層の模擬天守が建てられ、模擬天守は、郷土歴史資料館として利用されています。再建当時、実際には天守の無かった城を天守付きで再現することについて多くの論議を呼びました。

城の西側には四軒の武家屋敷が残されており、藩政時代の中級武士の暮らしを偲ぶことができます。現存する武家屋敷は、森本、三輪、山田、旧曽我部の四家が軒を連ねています。いずれの家屋も、茅葺屋根の武家中門造りの建築様式で約二百年前の建造と推定されています。
城下町は、羽州街道の宿場町で米沢街道の分岐点でもあり、更に上山温泉の湯町としても発展してきました。
今も、江戸時代の面影が残る歴史風情漂う温泉地であり、癒しを求めて多くの人が集まって来る観光地です。

Kaminoyama Castle is a castle in Kaminoyama City, Yamagata Prefecture, also known as Tsukioka Castle.During the Edo period, the domain office of the Kaminoyama domain was located there. During the Warring States period, it was the southernmost citadel of the Mogami clan, and was the stage for battles with Date and Uesugi. In the Edo period, under the reign of the Toki clan, the magnificent castle was widely known as the “Famous Castle of Ushu”.
After the Mogami clan was condemned in the early Edo period, the lord of the castle changed quite often, but the Kaminoyama Domain continued to exist until the Meiji Restoration.
The ruins of the castle were turned into Tsukioka Park and Tsukioka Shrine, and a three-story mock castle tower was built on the site of Ninomaru in 1982. The mock castle tower is used as a local history museum. When the castle was rebuilt, there was a lot of controversy over the idea of recreating a castle without a keep.

On the west side of the castle, there are four samurai residences, which remind us of the life of the middle class samurai during the feudal era. The four surviving samurai residences are the Morimoto, Miwa, Yamada, and former Sogabe families. All of the houses are estimated to have been built about 200 years ago in the architectural style of samurai chumonzukuri with thatched roofs. The castle town was an inn town on the Hanezu Highway and a junction of the Yonezawa Highway, and further developed as a hot spring town for the Kaminoyama Hot Springs.
Even now, it is a hot spring resort with a historical atmosphere that still retains the atmosphere of the Edo period, and many people come here to seek healing.

・「中門造」は日本海沿いの地域に多い造ですね。
武家住宅も雪対策として取り入れていたのでしょう。
それにしても、武家住宅は日本全国でも貴重なだけに、四棟も遺されているのは、大変に素晴らしい事だと思います。
・上山市と言えば、国重要文化財に指定されている「尾形家住宅」も取り上げて欲しかったです。
肝いりを務めただけあって上層農家の素晴らしい造です。
雪国対策の中門造∔曲屋が合わさった造で特徴的でもあるので、今度は取り上げて下さい！！
