角館は、秋田県仙北市に所在し、武家屋敷等が数多く残されている城下町。国の重要伝統的建造物群保存地区に指定され、藩政時代の地割が残り「みちのくの小京都」とも呼ばれています。角館は、関ヶ原の合戦後の慶長7年（1602年）、佐竹氏が秋田へ入部し久保田藩領となりました。翌慶長8年（1603年）、佐竹義宣の実弟である蘆名義勝が所預として角館に入ります。
南北につらぬく武家屋敷通りに面して、石黒家、青柳家などの武家屋敷が現存しています。この界隈は、映画「隠し剣鬼の爪」「たそがれ清兵衛」などのロケ地となった場所でもあります。また、角館は桜の名所としても知られています。角館のシダレザクラは国の天然記念物に、堤防の桜並木は「檜木内川堤」として国の名勝に指定されています。
角館は、東北の豊かな自然に包まれた懐かしさを感じる風情ある城下町です。春は桜、夏は深緑、秋は紅葉、冬は雪景色と、情緒漂う町並みは四季を通じて訪れる人を癒してくれる優しい町です。

Kakunodate is located in Senboku City, Akita Prefecture, and is a castle town with many samurai residences. Designated as an Important preservation district of historic buildings, it is also called ‘Little Kyoto of Michinoku’, where the land allocation from the Edo period remains. In 1602, after the Battle of Sekigahara, the Satake clan entered Akita and Kakunodate became a fief of the Kubota clan. In the following year, 1603, Yoshikatsu Ashina, a younger brother of Yoshinobu Satake, entered Kakunodate as a custodian.
The Ishiguro, Aoyagi, and other samurai residences still stand along the samurai residence street that runs north-south. This area was used as a filming location for the movies “Kakushi Ken Oni no Tsume” and “Tasogare Seibei”. Kakunodate is also known as a cherry blossom viewing spot.
The weeping cherry trees in Kakunodate are designated as a national natural monument, and the rows of cherry trees along the embankment, known as “Hinokinai River Embankment,” are designated as a national place of scenic beauty.
Kakunodate is a nostalgic castle town surrounded by the rich nature of the Tohoku region. The townscape, with its seasonal atmosphere of cherry blossoms in spring, deep green in summer, autumn leaves in fall, and snowy landscape in winter, will soothe visitors.
